Our story

It began on 4 May 1967. Pero Miladin and his brother bought the house at the top of the Schlosser stairs and opened an inn in it. They called it Izletište pri Schlosserovim stubama - the inn by the Schlosser stairs.

By the eighties the whole of Zagreb was calling it something else: Kod Pere, at Pero's. The name stuck.

Three generations

Pero Miladin died in 2015, in his ninety-second year. His son Ivica carried the restaurant on.

It is passing now to Pero's grandson - who is, of course, also called Petar.

STONE FLOOR AND OLD TIMBER

The room

A two-tone stone floor of the kind they laid in the sixties. Walls and ceiling in old wood panelling. A large hall of tables, and a covered part that opens onto the terrace. Tablecloths and linen napkins.

None of it was done to look old. It simply stayed.

Two levels, vines overhead. Vlaška on one side, the cathedral on the other - hidden for much of the summer behind the greenery.

THE SAME RECIPES

The kitchen

Roast veal, pašticada, duck with mlinci, strudel. The same dishes and the same recipes, in portions that have guests asking for a spare plate to share.

Fish on Fridays. The rest to order.

2027

Sixty years

In 2027 the house turns sixty. Until then we will carry on doing what we have always done.
